ASAH Boarding School for Orphaned Girls
PROTECT. EDUCATE. EMPOWER.
In Duk Payuel, Jonglei State, Republic of South Sudan ASAH protects orphaned girls from forced marriage at puberty, educates them in school subjects and practical life skills, and empowers them to be leaders and to give back to their communities. Our goal is to educate 50 orphaned girls from throughout Duk county all the way through school so that they will the have skills and knowledge to help their communities and their country develop and sustain peace. The ASAH Girls will change their world.
Recent conflict has resulted in the evacuation of Duk Payuel by all residents, including ASAH students and staff. Rebels have moved through the area, damaging our facilities and looting our supplies and furnishings. The ASAH staff are all accounted for. Two of our students are living with our program manager and his family in another state of South Sudan, and are enrolled in school there. The ASAH staff is in the process of determining the locations of the ASAH students and working with the ASAH board on ways to continue our mission to Protect, Educate, and Empower these vulnerable orphaned girls.
